Eaten by Tigers

On his hunts for food, the caveman had one big problem - attacks from sabre-tooth tigers.

Things changed when one man, in the seconds before the tiger pounced, managed
to pick up a nearby branch. Using it as a club, he hit the tiger, shattered its skull
- and survived.

Thus was born the first tool - and other cavemen then began to carry clubs in their belts.

However, some tigers were still too quick and powerful. The men gradually
learned to pull out their clubs quickly, raise them and strike at the right angle
for maximum efficiency.

This was the first use of process in the development of a tool.

In today's companies, executives carry clubs marked 'finance,' 'IT' and
'human resources' - and they know exactly how to use them.

But the club marked 'sales management' is used in an unwieldy and ineffective fashion.

And so - although sabre-tooth tigers are long extinct,
sales managers keep getting eaten by their corporate successors.
